@numericcitizen @john English is indeed my second language and one I never even studied in an academic setting and the reason why my writing tone can sound direct is because it’s the only one I have. I don’t know how to write in any other way.

As for how lean, I can offer you my definition of lean but keep in mind is just A definition, and not THE definition because, again, I’m a nobody. I have no authority here. My definition is that you should try serve me only the things that are necessary to convey whatever message you’re trying to convey.

\n

And the issue I’m raising is one of respect for things we take for often for granted: like infinite bandwidth for example. Loading an extra megabyte of an image might not be an issue in most cases but it can be for others. If you’re on a slow mobile connection and you’re paying for those MBs, you’d be pissed to know you just wasted some of your resources for no reason.

\n

Now, how far can you push this? To unreasonable extremes if you’re an insane person like myself who’s still considering removing (again) my custom web font because I’m bothered by those extra 150kb loaded on every page.

\n

But I’m also the same person who spent hours to rewrite the class names on my css back in the days because a one word letter requires fewer bytes to be downloaded.

\n

Is this worth doing? Probably not. Did I do it because I thought it was a good thing to do to contrast a web that’s increasingly bloated? Yes.

\n

Do I think people who use images in blogs are idiots? No. Do I think some of them are unnecessary? Yes. Do I also think people should be able to do whatever they want and they should not listen to me? Obviously yes. At the end of the day I care about people ditching commercial social media and get back owning their own corners of the web. Because we need that and because I think it’s important.

\n

But sometimes I’m also annoyed. Or tired. Or angry. Or I have bad day. And I rant on my site which is my form of therapy. And it’s fine for people not enjoying that. There’s a reason why I never read what past me wrote.

I’d probably not enjoy it myself.

Btw, unsubscribing to P&B out of spite to me is an interesting move. I don’t write that content so i’m not sure who are you supposed to be hurting here. Actualy, if you really wanted to be a pain in the ass to me you’d subscribe to the newsletter with multiple addresses since I’m paying out of my pocket to send those newsletters and sending to more people costs me more. Unless you meant unsubbing to the RSS feed in which case that doesn’t change much since I don’t even know who is subscribed there.
