Margo’s Got Money Troubles Season 1: I love how this show likes all its characters. It lets them be messy and holds them accountable, but the consequences seem like natural extensions of their actions rather than punishments. Then when a character does a “bad” thing, you get why and can empathize. 📺

For All Mankind Season 5: can’t pull off that finale without what came before it, but what came before it was rough at times. There’s a tightrope to walk when telling a story about protest and grounding that in a literal foreign world is like doing it with a 100 lbs weight around your neck 📺

This was a bit of an odd year for the best picture category– there wasn’t a single nominee I didn’t like (though I would have swapped out F1 and Frankenstein for Weapons and Eddington), but there’s a pretty big dropoff between #3 and 4.

@manton I was thinking about this after reading the Verge’s reporting on this. I’m still trying to formulate my exact thoughts, but generally we need to learn (and to teach others!) how to internalize what AI (and– to be frank– society and government) tell us. It’s understanding that the dichotomy of fact and fiction doesn’t really apply to everything that it historically has because sources of information are now much more accessible and much more varied. Information is now a spectrum that you have to decide–sometimes on a case by case basis– how much you trust or distrust what is being told to you. AI is (probably) more accurate than asking a random person on the street, but it’s (probably) less accurate than asking an expert. Everyone (should) know not to seek medical advice from your barista, but how do you accept medical advice from someone who sounds right, is probably mostly right, but there’s no good way to confirm? We have to figure that out!

@manton Finally digging into the blogging prompts for TV shows– thanks for adding these! Would you mind a bit of feedback?

As somone who (as of now) mainly blogs about media they’re watching, I think TV shows are much closer to books than movies. I’d love the same Want to Watch/Watching/Watched “shelves” that books have for seasons of TV shows. It may make sense to put TV Shows into Epilogue. I like that there are options to blog about individual TV episodes, but I think episodes are much more akin to chapters in a book. The “unit” of a TV show is a season and should be the default blogging option.

Thanks again for doing this! It’s a hard problem–one that Letterboxd has said they’re going to do for years (and not yet got it done)
